Virtual Doula Program Overview for Doulas
Birthing Families Matter Society is a charitable organization that supports high-risk, low-income and marginalized birthing individuals and families in obtaining services that might otherwise be inaccessible. Our program ‘Birthing Families Counselling’ offers sliding scale perinatal counselling services to these families.
With sustained/rising COVID 19 numbers across Vancouver Island and BC, many doulas are unable to find safe and sustainable ways to support families. Similarly, many families are hesitant to book a doula who may not be able to be physically present at the birth or in postpartum; the need for doulas and families to connect is even more needed than ever and clearly we need alternative care models.
The Virtual Doula Program will connect doulas and families through our online portal for virtual support in the specific arenas of:
- Prenatal education
- Birth prep
- Prenatal postpartum planning
- Childbirth Education
- Birth story listening
- Postpartum education
- Infant care/feeding troubleshooting
- Affirming emotional support
- Connecting families to specific resources that meet their needs
We are looking for doulas who are available to provide the above services to our community virtually via our platform Jane App. There are opportunities for both volunteer/free services and paid exchanges; successful doula applicants will have flexibility to provide services that fit within their schedules.
Our first iteration of this model will provide:
Free: 20 minute “Ask a Doula” sessions
$25: 1hr Prenatal Support sessions (birth prep or postpartum prep)
$50: 2 hr Express Childbirth Ed
$25: 1hr Postpartum Doula Support sessions
